People had come from all over with the tractors that were their main work horses off their farms. We had passed a few driving down the city streets which was quite a sight! It seemed to be a family affair with tractors arriving all night, some towing caravan’s and there were a bunch kid’s running around.
The “pitch” was a hundred meter dirt track and the goal was to get a “fullpull” . The tractors were in various weight classes (which Laure and Stephane were weighing with fine Swiss precision), and they had to tow a trailer which had a moving concrete block with a blade that gradually dug into the pitch.
Your tractor had to tow it the full 100 meters to earn the fullpull. It was pretty interesting to watch and everyone was having a great time. There were port-a-potties set up, live music, and food vendors where you could get Raclette (grilled to melt and served over potatoes), sausages and burgers. There was beer and wine served outside and a “dance hall” in a barn complete with disco ball. I checked out the live music one night and is was a lively affair..think yodeling rock and you would be close.

After some good competition the next day, the rain returned and Laure took us sight seeing to a few of the Roman ruins in the area. The first was just in a field on the side of a road, and then there was an amphitheater (I think this was in Mouton), which had been re purposed as a concert venue but still had a lot of the original structure in place.
The highlight for lunch was some terrific steak tartare made with local beef and available at a nearby mini golf course of all places. You could have ordered the local beef, salmon from Norway or..American horse! (makes me suspicious of what the BLM is doing with all the captured mustang’s eh..)

On Sunday we all packed up and everyone headed back home to get ready for the work week. We enjoyed the fantastic hospitality of Laure and Stephane for 2 more days, visiting the town of Solothurn, hiking up on the hill behind their home and listening to all the cow bells ringing. They had a great view of the Swiss Alps’ (just Alps here I suppose!), and we got to visit the Breitling factory and the Omega museum on our way back to Canet.

They was also a few hour layover in Geneva, which is a beautiful city with a big lake fountain and sparkling white swans.

This was one of the true highlight’s of our first season, and we returned to Canet with renewed energy and big smiles! Thanks again Laure, Stephane, and kid’s!!
