There were some large homes ringing the bay and a popular small beach. Kids were jumping and diving off low and high rocky outcrops and having a ball in the 84 degree F water. This was a little tighter anchoring, and with rocks every direction but seaward, the pucker factor increased. Both boats found secure anchoring and the first night it didn’t get too crowded, but was really hot and the No-seeums had voracious appetites. (This was the first time we had encountered bugs since leaving Canet, but at least the itch didn’t last long). Scotty and Layla treated us to an amazing Paella which was cooked to perfection and truly delicious. I mixed up a jug of sangria, finally tapping into the 10L box of red wine that our friend Pablo had organized for us before we left France. We caught the last of the breeze and then everyone retired for the night.

The next day we had fun dinghy touring and snorkeling around the bay, going in and out of a few of the larger caves. There were quite a few jellyfish around, and the water was full of them in one of the outer caves we visited. It seemed a perfect place to stash some pirate loot! The swell was uncomfortable and wind was all over the place. More and more boats arrived and squeezed in around us..we were “Porquerolled”! There was minimal sleep that night but we were able to pick up the hook when the breeze changed and get out of dodge. What a relief to have some open water and be moving again!
We stopped in another open bay that was sheltered from the swell for a lunch hook allowing swims, showers, lunch and a 2 hour nap. There were horse treks on the hillside nearest us, and a few minutes later, a Segway tour down the same path which seemed comical.
The plan was to overnight back in Cala Canamel which would have protection from the wind (but still had a fair swell running), and it was a relief to have good space around us again. We had our mates over for rice bowl dinner, with ginger-orange Mahi Mahi, fridge-pickled carrots, onions, and cukes, blanched green beans, nori slices, with a soft-boiled egg (not as soft as planned but still tasty), and sesame seed sprinkles over lemon coconut rice. Life was good sitting in the cockpit watching the crew of a huge sail yacht called Zenjin, anchor then deploy toys and swim and play for an hour before packing up and getting back into crew whites. The swell abated and we all slept well.
