Season three

2018 Season Three: Coastal driving and Carrefour

I had the rental car for another day so decided to do a provisioning run for the heavy stuff, and found my way to the Carrefour.

..And for our Canadian friends…yes folks, that’s under 10 euro for 10 liters of wine

This was our favorite supermarket in France and Spain. On a Sunday morning in Sardinia though, it was a zoo! Family’s were moving through the packed isles, and stopping to greet friends, and lining up 3 deep at the bakery, and deli counters. There was one whole isle of just tomato; bottled, canned, and boxed..not pasta sauce, just tomato. Pasta took up two isles, not counting the fresh pasta in the refrigerated section. The bakery had amazing pastries but the bread selection was minimal. I didn’t look through the whole store, just got what I needed and skedaddled. The checkout lady was friendly and I practiced a little basic Italian on her..she kindly corrected my pronunciation and smiled and said “Italiano, poco, poco” indicating I should practice ”a little, a little”. (I have used this phrase frequently when I see that baffled expression on the face of some local I am trying to converse with, after I open with “Mi dispiace” = I’m sorry…).

Something you don’t see in the American meat section. Horse meat.

I got back and stowed the provisions and then decided to drive down the coast. My original plan was to drive to Bosa on the NW side of the island, but with thunder storms due again I didn’t fancy getting caught on the narrow mountainous roads. The road was still narrow driving east, with frequent hairpin bends, but It was only 35 minutes to Solano beach.

It would have been two and a half hours each way to Bosa. The beach was the biggest stretch of sand on this side of the bay and was packed with beach brollies and sunbathers. I noted a few boats anchored off the beach and thought it might make a good first stop when we left the marina.

The anchorage off Solano beach was a 35 minute drive east from Marina di Capitana towards Villasimius.
