The view from Elena’s Taverna across the anchorage in Vlikho Bay

Monday was a slow day. Sandy and I hiked around town a bit then walked back with Kate, from the township of Nidri to the yacht club in Vlikho bay. On the way we passed an interesting archaeological burial site from the bronze age, and enjoyed a relaxing coffee at a little bakery. Meanwhile the guys were all at the Chandlery where Todd was excited to find some of the items he was looking for. These included; new floating line to make swimming the lines to shore for stern tying easier, spare spark plugs for the outboard, fuel filter for the generator, in-line fuel filter and separator for the outboard, and more sponges and pads for cleaning the hull…).

On Tuesday Doug and Sandy took their boat around to Abelike Bay as they needed a beach (not a rocky bottom), to drop their starboard rudder as it was hardly moving. It took a bit to work the rudder out, but fortunately whatever had gotten stuck on the shaft came out with it. After a bit of grunting, pushing and pulling from Sandy, Doug, and Darryl (and lot’s of breath holding by Todd and Simon who were in the water), the rudder was back in position and moving freely! It is a great day when a project goes this well!!

We had also taken our boat around to Abelike to make water and charge up, and noted that the port engine tach (RPM) was going wonky and we were getting the engine alarm as the needle swung wildly from 0-2000 RPM’s.. Unfortunately this was a sign that the “MDI” (some computerized component/brain part) was dying, and we would need another. They had been replaced twice already as they only seemed to last a year. We had 1 spare on board but knew the starboard engine would likely need one as well in the coming months. The best place to get one would be from the distributor in Athens, so that was our general destination. Thursday we left for Port Atheni which was just past Abelike Bay, and enjoyed 2 days of paddle boarding, swims, boat projects and a BBQ. The new stern lines worked very well!

Kalaspera! Too bad that the “Air Buddy” never got developed, seems like this anchor issue would have been a great chance to use it.
