On July 7th we continued to gradually make our way NW to the southern end of Paros, again seeking a sheltered anchorage from now stronger wind. It did afford a good opportunity for a zippy 3 hour sail in mid 20’s breeze which was exhilarating! The anchorage was pretty windy but no fetch (wind waves), and by 7 pm it had died off and become really hot. Late in the evening the town must have opened a sewer as the whole bay was foul with the smell of urine. Ugg, good thing we always rinse off with fresh water after swimming! (So far this is the only place this has happened thank goodness!)
We were happy to head up the Paros – Andiparos channel and back to the big port of Paroikia. It was time to get our transit log stamped again and do another provisioning run for fresh fruit and veggies. The channel was very shallow and we coould see the bottom the whole time. Least depth was 6 feet for a very short time..very happy that we we had the shallow draught of a catamaran under us… There was space in the bay closest to town which was a change of scenery and made the trip in and out a quick one. There was also a fueling option but we decided to wait until we got back up to Poros near the mainland, as we had full jerry cans if we needed it.

After a productive day, Todd and I headed to town for a walk and to have a bite to eat. Gyros were around 3 euros and the Greek salad between 5 and 7 euros, so it was a good option on a hot day when you didn’t want to heat up the boat anymore. For the past 3 weeks or so, interior temps in the salon were 80-93 F, depending on the breeze. 80 being at 7 in the morning.
Outbound to Sifnos the next day, we had to dodge the 10 am ferry commute. We counted 7 ferry’s coming, going, and at the dock when we headed out. This was a good day to meander along with the code 0 sail, as it made a lovely shady spot to hang out in on the trampoline while drifting along. We continued to “swim the fishing lures” and even circled a couple of schools of fish as we approached the island. Alas, no takers!
