Currently we are visiting family in the Midwest where summer is in full swing, and we’re getting our water “fix” on Lake Michigan, hence the salt free title.
I haven’t spent much time in this part of the country during the summer, as most of our visit’s coincide with the holiday season when it’s a bleak, lifeless wasteland …(OK, there are more bright sunny days here than the Pacific Northwest but if you step outside without the proper attire, the cold can kill you!) Now in the middle of summer everything is lush and green, and I don’t think the locals are quite so daft for living here!
Lake Michigan is a massive body of water that supports a busy boating community. It’s been great to see families enjoying some fresh air and a normal summertime activity. (Yes, masks are worn in any building and people are being respectful of personal spacing.)
Our cruising plans remain on hold. We did obtain new insurance coverage, and get an extension to our storage contract in Greece after we couldn’t return to the boat at the end of April. The US has not been lifted from the travel ban as we had hoped, and we have since applied for an exemption to the travel restrictions to Greece. Fingers crossed for success on that front!
Our cruising mates in the Caribbean have had a mixed time of it. Travel has freed up somewhat and boats can move around the islands. Unfortunately hurricane season is in full swing, and they haven’t been able to enter countries outside of the hurricane zone. Not an ideal situation to be in but they have been staying clear of the worst of it so far, whew!
I’m going to try and beef up some other parts of the site and will try and post once a week on a more regular schedule, just to keep in touch.

Enjoy the summer break in the Great Lakes region. Petoskey is very near the merge of Lakes Huron, Superior, and Michigan. Make sure you eat a pastie or 2.
