The shot was from the top of the quad at the Kolasin 1600 Ski field. Opposite is Kolasin 1450 Ski Field, which was much larger and busier.
In prep for our visit to the mountain town of Kolasin, we waterproofed our Sailopats (foul weather sailing bibs) to use as ski pants. Needless to say we didn’t have any ski/snow boarding gear with us, but rentals were only 8 euros for a kit, 2 euro for goggles, and then 5 euro to purchase ski gloves. The lift ticket was 15 euro for adults, and there was plenty of snow and wide open trails.

When we arrived in the town of Kolasin on Monday, it was bitterly cold at -6 deg C (21.2 deg F) and we had a very brisk walk around town. We stopped for lunch at a Konoba (Tavern) which had a fireplace, and enjoyed a couple of good hot local dishes for lunch. One of these was a combination mashed potato with equal parts melted cheese and a hint of garlic called “Kacamak”, real stick to your ribs stuff!

Tuesday was sunny and much warmer, so we headed off to rent gear and then drove to the Kolasin 1600 ski field. There wasn’t much traffic and the drive was pretty through the winter wonderland of frozen tree’s. I hadn’t been on ski’s since about 1993 (when I switched to snow boarding for 10 years) and Todd grew up snowboarding and cross country skiing. We were mighty thankful the newer skis were so much shorter than the old ones, and had a fun morning fighting gravity!
