Season Six

2021 SEASON SIX : Old Town Dubrovnik

We picked up tickets at the Pile gate and headed into old town at one end of the Stradon. This is a wide pedestrian promenade that’s usually bustling with tourists but was very quiet on our visit. There were only 2 cafe’s open with tables and umbrellas set out, in a normal summer they would be packed the whole way down.

Looking Down at the Stradon from Old Town Wall

It was a lovely breezy day for the wall walk, and we got right to it. It was an anti clockwise loop with views over to Fort St Lawrence, up and down the coast, over the terracotta tile roof tops of Old Town Dubrovnik, and back up Mt Srd

We stopped for espresso and water about a third of the way around before continuing on towards the small harbor. This is for local boats only and doesn’t offer much protection from the south. Rumor has it the a marina project is in the works and the local leases won’t be renewed.

Locals Only at Dubrovnik Harbor

After a wander around the streets we headed over to Fort St Lawrence which was included in the ticket price.

The views from the fortification were worth the extra steps.

It was about a 45 minute walk back to the boat in Gruz. We made one short stop for a well deserved beer en route.

We had a great day with perfect weather, lack of crowds, and fantastic views. It was a good way to start our Croatian cruise and soak up some of the history….with a little Game of Thrones color thrown into the mix!
