Season seven

2022 OCTOBER…”Headly” the Jamon

Ever Since we Arrrived in Europe We’ve Wanted One of These Iberico Hams…

When in, do as right!

So we had good Intel from a couple who are running a 70 foot catameran, that the smaller foreleg 50% Iberico ham is a better bargain and tastier than some of the 100% ones. We had a fun tapas night with them, and taste-tested to make sure the info was sound. It was!

They also educated us as to how to test the ham you are buying…a good squeeze to the meaty part that should have a modicum of spring to it, and not be too soft of firm (suave o dura).

The ham lasted us 2 weeks as we were told that you need to shave it every day, so I had a built in excuse!

They’re quite fatty ( Delicious!) and you need to save some of the fat slices to place over the cut meat and keep it moist. You then cover the limb with a cloth.

Slice by Delicious Slice….

It was originally purchased as provisioning for the trip to the Canaries. We missed the weather window waiting on templates for new solar panels, and are currently waiting for the next window…alas, Headly the Jamon is no more. We reckon we’ll get another for the Atlantic crossing though!
