While we were anchored in Marsh Harbor dodging weather, we were able to check out Fatties for fresh Conch Salad. A beer and a tip later, we also got a Conch cleaning lesson.

The recipe was pretty straight forward. Conch, thin sliced onion, habanero pepper, red pepper, cucumber, fresh lime and orange juice, and salt.
The lime husks were used to clean the slime off the Conch skin, after it was gutted/cleaned. Apparently you can do this with salt as well.

The Pile Groweth…
The other technique for securing Conch once you’ve caught them, is to drill a hole in the lip of the shell and wire them together. The day we left Marsh Harbor, we found 2 Conch wired together with the wire wedged in the anchor swivel. There was a bit of a scurry to cut them loose so we could stow the anchor!
Hopefully we’ll have a picture of some Conch that we’ve picked up off the bottom by hand, in the not too distant future. Meanwhile, we need to make tracks south to the Spanish Wells area in the next small weather window. We are ready for some fun in the sea and sun!
