The day after our tiki tour around Rock Sound, we had a brisk sail up to Alabaster Bay. We actually set out toward Governor’s Bay, but the wind angle wasn’t favorable, so we just went where the wind took us!
Alabaster was a long white sandy Bay, but it also had a fair bit of hard Marl on the bottom. It took three tries before we got a good hook in sand, but it was an idelic setting. It was nice to have space around us, and we took the opportunity to have some fun on the Windsurfer.
The next stop up the island was at the Glass Window. This was a section of bridge over a gap separating the Exuma Bank from the Atlantic, which created a “window” effect.

The next morning was a relatively early start as we needed to make Current Cut with a favorable tide. It was a mix of sailing and motor sailing to head up to Meeks Patch, and a sandy spot off Pig Beach.

Taking a Break From Swimming
After chilling with the pigs and having a pretty awesome picnic on another pig-free beach, Todd created a delicious lobster, steak, wild rice and salad birthday dinner for me…complete with a flourless chocolate cake he baked!
The following day, we moved over to Russel Island for a lunch hook before reanchoring off the town of Spanish Wells.

It took all of three minutes to rent a golf cart for the day, and we buzzed around to see the sights. On the north side, the white sand bar was striking.

We had a good look around and also topped up the fresh produce again. About the only thing we didn’t get to do was visit the museum, which was closed on the weekend and required an appointment. We’ll have to do that some other time!

The people we met were happy and helpful, and the small island was almost completely developed.
Our cruising guide reports that some of the inhabitants are descendants of the Loyalists who fled the American Revolution, while others are descended from William Sayles “Eleutheran Adventurers”, English Puritans who arrived in 1648. We’ve heard that it’s about the safest place to wander around in the Bahamas!
Once again, love the pics and your commentary! I’m looking forward to hearing first hand about your winter adventures. Continue to stay safe and healthy.
Wonderful update. Glad to find you are still making memories. Belated birthday wishes. Stay well and keep enjoying life.
