Season Eight

2024… THE LAST FUN OF THE SEASON AND BACK TO BRUNSWICK GA

Residence on Elbow Cay Near Hope Town, Abacos

It was a short sail over the shallows, up to Tilloo Cay and a quiet anchorage for the night. On arrival, a large Trigger fish came swimming around, and we had a school of smaller silver fish show up soon after anchoring. It was great to have the space  around us this close to Hope Town!

The next day we caught up with our friends who were anchored near Tahiti Beach, just south of Hope Town harbor. It was blowing a fairly brisk 20 knots when we met up for a beach walk that afternoon but it made for a very pleasant and bug-free wander.

After The Golf Cart Tour Around Hope Town

It was surprising to discover that at least 50% of the island was private, and you couldn’t drive through it without codes for the various electronic gates. There was still enough accessible sightseeing done by golfcart, to make a fun day out  though!

As always, we’d been looking ahead for a weather window to head from the Abacos up to our hurricane hole in Brunswick GA. So after a couple of nights with friends, we did a quick stop in Marsh Harbor for fuel and fresh veges, then Angel Point the next night. It helped break up the long day to Great Sale Cay, which would be our last anchorage in the Abacos.

The weather window arrived and we left at daylight, so we could avoid the “sunken forest” of dead heads that had been blown into the water there from hurricane Dorian.

Once again, we had an excellent and fast passage using the Gulfstream to spirit us North. Sailing breeze was good for an assist, and we arrived at the dock in Brunswick around 8.30 pm after a 35 hr passage.

Now it’s time to decommission the boat for the hot, sticky, and windy season, and make a list of maintenance and repairs to do over the summer.

Once the weather came right, we had a really good second half of the season….

I think we’re on tap to do it again next year!
