Season Four

2019 Season Four : On the hoof in Athens

It was crazy that it took under 4 hours in a car to cover what had taken us 3 weeks on the boat, and driving over the Rion Bridge and the Corinth Canal was a fleeting experience compared to sailing under/through them..( I didn’t even have time to get a photo of the Corinth Canal)

We stayed at the Pinnacle Hotel (highly recommended for lovely staff and a handy location for walking around all the monuments, markets, and the many dining options), and set off around the city. We visited the tower of the winds, the bath’s,the Acropolis, the National Gardens, Churches, the large central market, and Parlament for the changing of the guards. It was a change of pace just being a regular tourist for a few days, and we found Athens to be a very walkable city..certainly it is pretty tough to drive through, and when we left, it took an hour to go 4 blocks because of a strike.

In summary, Greece had the best and most anchorages of any of the countries we have been to so far in the Med, the warmest people (consistently kind, helpful and happy), and great food. It also had frequent high winds, a massive charter boat industry, and a 24 % tax rate. All up though, we are looking forward to starting our next season here!

Best, Virg and Todd
