Season Five

2020 SEASON 5 : Sivota-Mourtos to Platarias

Gorgeous sunset from Platarias Town Quay with Corfu in the distance

We wanted to check out some spots we hadn’t been, and Platarias was a good one. The town quay was calm compared to Preveza, and full of late season charter boats. This might be why nobody assisted with tying the boats up, although the folks watching from the bars and restaurants did applaud whenever someone managed it! This required crew to step (or leap) off the stern, loop a bollard and step (or leap) back aboard while the anchor was getting set. Todd did a great job in the side breeze with a temperamental port engine shifter, and there was no leaping for me!

The Charter Boats to the Right and Left of us were mostly English groups

We took care of laundry, rubbish (better to drop it on the mainland than the islands if you can), stretched the legs, and Todd serviced the Main winch and used the “brain” from one of the jib winches to get it powered up. The mainsail is huge, and although we could eventually hoist it manually, the loads are high and it’s better to get it up quickly.

We had a chat with the charter boat beside us who where leaving with 2 other boats the next day for a cruise to Athens. Nice people, and we shared a socially distanced beer in the cockpit and wished everyone fair winds and fun sailing.
