Season Five

2020 SEASON 5 : Up and Up!

It was such a gorgeous day that we put the boat jobs aside and headed for the hills in search of an ancient Austro-Hungarian church. There was a bit of wandering around to locate the trail head and then it was all up hill. We passed overgrown terraces the whole way up so figured we were in the general vicinity. The trail was pretty rugged and at one point we ended up on a game trail. We weren’t really lost, but a man hiked up through the undergrowth and directed us back to the main trail. (We have no idea where he came from but perhaps this happens a lot?)

This was half way up the trail to the old church, our boat is to the left, just right from the crane
It was a bit of a goat path through the middle section..

There were great views to be had from a fairly flat area with an old grove of olive tree’s, and after enjoying the vista (and catching our breath!) we continued up the mountain. There weren’t any signs to let you know you were heading in the right direction and there were a few times we thought we had taken a wrong turn. Just when we were thinking of calling it a day, the trail opened up on top of a ridge, and Todd was the first to see the wee church. I can tell you that after the hike up there, we were feeling pretty close to God!

Mission accomplished!
The roof was missing but the thick stone walls were well preserved
