As you can see we are well ahead of tourist season! We had a nice evening walking around Gruz getting a few jobs done (obtaining the local currency the “Kuna”, getting SIM cards) and tracking down the Mexican restaurant for a Cinco de Mayo celebratory tequila.
The next morning we were up early and caught an Uber to the top of MT Srd. It was a clear day and the views of Dubrovnik down below were spectacular.

The Cable Car wasn’t running but the zig zag trail down was pretty obvious. Stations of the cross are positioned at each of the switchback corners, and the trail was popular with Pilgrims to the large white cross above. The cross was a gift from the Archdiocese of the island of Brac and was constructed with the luminous white stone quarried there. Originally gifted in 1935 to commemorate 2000 years after the birth of Jesus, it was destroyed in the war in 1991 and later rebuilt. The island of Brac is located about 100 kilometers north of Dubrovnik, near the town of Split.
