Season seven

2022 SEPTEMBER…Sicily to Sardinia

Favignana Island in The Egadi Isola Group

We’ve continued to move the boat West and South, stopping for reprovisioning and parts in Marina Di Ragusa. Todd was thrilled to revisit the hardware and home supply store called Bricoman, while I was keen to pick up cheap basic bathing suits (Togs for you Kiwis) at the Decathlon shop.

It’s very humid everywhere now so we opted for tasty Sicilian pizzas and a walk around the town square after dark…It was too hot to cook and who doesn’t love Sicilian pizza?

It was a 24 hour run from Marina di Ragusa up to Favignana Island in the Egadi group, and we found enough breeze for the “Blue Beast”. It worked like a champ, and we managed a stress free run before the wind fizzled again.

By the time we had fought the current and dodged fishing boats all night, we decided to anchor off a sandy beach at the end of Isola Grande, rather than phaff about with a mooring buoy on Favignana at 4 am. It took a bit to sort out the navigation lights from the shoreside lighting, but Isola Grande had a nice big bay that gave us the Southerly protection we needed for a good snooze.

After a 4 hour nap we headed over to Favignana and the anchorage/mooring field at Cala Rosa, and secured a mooring for the night. There were 6 boats there when we arrived and an hour later it was packed with big inflatables and charter boats.

We gave the hull a scrub and Todd went up the rig to sort out the twisted Code 0 halyard. To cool off, we took a last dip before bed.

Next stop would be Southern Sardina.

  1. Alex and Pauline says:

Looks like you are in the same anchorage in Sardinia that we were many years ago before we crossed over to Tunisia! Keep enjoying.
