MARCH 2023… NONSUCH BAY

We Anchored Behind The Reef For Swell Protection

It’s only a short two and a half hour trip up to Nonsuch Bay from Falmouth, so it’s pretty handy. As you enter, there’s an anchorage on the right behind Green Island, then you dog leg right into the bay and head up towards the reef.

Looking up Toward The Reef as You Make The Right Hand Turn

Nonsuch Bay is a good spot for wind sports, and at least half the boats there had gear aboard. Kite boarders were the most prevalent, but there was a good showing of Wing Foilers too. We were keen to get familiarized with our Wing Foiler and potentially take some lessons.

Keeping Your Kites Deployed Is a Great Way to Stop Boats Anchoring Too Close to You

Todd was able to stand up the first day and “tame” the wing. I spent that day on my knees, trying to get the wing to take me in my preferred direction. By day two, I was much more motivated to work on standing as my thighs were burning from all the kneeling!

The next step is to get up on the foil ( And To Sail Back to the Boat!)

We both have a Windsurfing background, but Wing Foiling is much different. There’s no fixed center of effort, so it makes for a great high intensity interval training workout while you’re learning. I think we’ll wait to build some more endurance before we sign up for lessons though!
