We talked our friends Iris and Karsten into joining us for a week of sailing and fun, before they had to make tracks to Panama.

After Calabash Bay, our next stop was Cat Island, first at Old Bight for windsurfing, kiting, and beach walks, then a short jaunt up to Fernandez Bay for paddle boarding and a get together. It turned out that Bob and Becky and Poalo and Charlotte, both of whom have Catana Catamarans, plus our friends on Crazy Love, were all in the bay.

The blokes all converged on our Iris and Karsten’s boat to troubleshoot some issues, and then we all met for happy hour at the Tiki Bar ashore. This had a very congenial atmosphere, probably helped by the honor bar, which meant there was no waiting for service…
The following day, we enjoyed paddle boarding around the lagoon, seeing trigger and bone fish, turtles, and a massive grey heron in the mangroves. We timed it just right, when the tide changed from slack to incoming, so it was a relaxed paddle instead of an against-current workout.

The next stop was a great location that took some weaving around reefs to get to the anchorage. It was another fun sail with the big asymmetrical spinnaker for us and a parafoil for the Germans. It was a treat to see their sail up close as I’d only ever seen them from a distance.

The snorkeling on the reefs was fantastic with lots of big grouper and trigger fish, colorful soft corals, but no lobster. The long white sand beach was good for an afternoon leg stretcher, and Todd found an old green-glass fishing float.
We were off the next morning after a wind shift, and had a bit of a lumpy motor sail back to Thomas Cay in the Exumas.
But the arrival sunset was lovely!

Love your March 16th update! It looks like you found some great sailing partners, I really enjoyed seeing your colorful sails billowing out. The water looks so blue and clear, I bet the swimming is fabulous.
It’s the Tuesday after Easter and we talked with Pete and Nancy on Easter and discussed our summer plans. We’re looking forward to seeing you two and getting a more detailed report of your adventures. Until then stay safe and may the winds be mostly in your favor 🤗.
