2018 Season Three: Another Great Meal and Off the Dock

Todd was happy with his purchases at the chandlery which included a small starter battery for our dinghy, and an all in one oil pump to change out the sail drive oil and hold it until we could dump it in an appropriate reuse bin. (He had a back up hand pump but this would be messy and time-consuming in the heat and motion of the engine room).

After a zip back to town for the grocery run, we decided to have dinner at a little side-walk restaurant that Scotty and Layla had really enjoyed the night before. Stevie the owner was another animated character, serving fusion Thai street food. We sat out on the side walk in the shade and enjoyed a “Chef’s special” meal. It started with a Thai spiced crispy panko chicken ball, followed by veggie and pork pot stickers, then a great rice dish with; kim chee, slow cooked beef cheeks, and a tempura egg. Next up was french toast with shrimp, scrambled egg’s, Sorpresso,a mild spicy sauce and a hint of maple syrup. After that (getting full yet?), was a stir fried pumpkin noodle dish with mushrooms, green’s and beef (I think). Dessert was a peanut and light marsh mellow (reminded me a little of Fluffernutter), mochi ball, which had amazing textures and flavors. It was a nice slow meal enjoyed with a crisp Spanish white wine and good mates.

Todd and Scotty still had energy to catch the 2nd half of the world cup soccer match between England and Croatia, where Croatia won. Layla, Isla, and I headed back to enjoy the evening breezes and the guys arrived a little later.

We were all up early, with the fellas returning the rental car and picking up fresh bread and Quiche. Even the light breeze made it difficult to get off the dock and we ended up have to use a spring line so as not to hit the charter boat beside us, (there was some initial rubbing of fenders but no real issues). It was decided a short trip to an easy anchorage was in order, so we back tracked to Ensenada de la Rapita, where there was plenty of room and a good sandy bottom.

The big boat was in and anchored about an hour and a ½ ahead of us. It was nice to be surrounded by the clear aquamarine water again, taking swims and naps at leisure (between a few boat jobs). After a good nights sleep, a quick re anchor after a big boat left, and morning weather check’s, there was time for a bit of cleaning and organization, boat maintenance, (trying to figure out the new settings on the solar charger), before an afternoon excursion to the shore. Todd was still working away so Scotty, Layla, Isla and I, headed to a beach-side snack bar before securing a grass umbrella and some coveted shade. I took the opportunity to walk the shore and check out some of the old rock boat garages, most of which were still in use. There was a rough ramp carved out of the rock leading into the sea, and an old winch system in the oldest one, which had a room attached.

We had Scotty, Leyla, and baby Isla aboard for dinner of marinated and grilled eggplant, duck breast, roasted red peppers on cheesy mashed potato’s, with a mixed salad. It was Friday the 13th so we tried to watch a horror movie but we were too sleepy to get through it (So obviously not riveting enough!).
