We ended up spending 4 days in our soon-to-be winter home, getting the lay of the land, doing the usual boat maintenance jobs and laundry, and meeting a few of the cruisers that had wintered here for several years. On the backside of M dock where we were, was a row of Oyster sailboats in the 50+ foot range. We also heard there would be a few more Catana catamarans that had berths on our side.
Sandy and Doug arrived Friday after getting a boat wash from one of the squalls on the way, and took their spot next to us. We were supposed to leave that morning but the thick band of thunder clouds all the way north where we were heading, made it an easy decision to stay put. That night we had them over for cocktails with Roger and Lynn, whom we had met on one of the Oyster sailboats down our dock. Roger and Lynn were an English couple who had been cruising the med for 6 years. They were lovely people and fountains of information about the different cruising areas, as well as locally around Marina di Ragusa. Apparently we would be missing the annual fireworks display the following night, as we would be heading up to the port of Licata to clear out of Italy before our crossing to Tunisia.
